Definition of Cyberbullying: When some one is mistreated in a harsh and/or mean way with technology

1)33 percent of youth have been victimized by cyber bullying.
2)Among this percentage, being ignored and disrespected were the most common forms of cyber bullying.
3)The primary cyber bullying location where victimizing occurs is in chat rooms (56 percent).
4)Following chat rooms, 49 percent are victimized via instant message and 28 percent via e-mail.
5)34 percent of youth who are bullied feel frustrated, 30 percent angry and 22 percent feel sad.
6)41 percent of victims do not tell anyone in their off-screen lives about their abuse, but 38 percent did tell an online friend.
7)The situation only improved for 19 percent of victims when they did tell someone about the bullying.
8)17 percent admitted to bullying another individual online.
9)Of the offenders interviewed most considered it fun or instructive; such as a way to strengthen their victims.
10)Oddly, because many studies show that females often deal with harder situations by becoming sad, this particular study suggests that females feel much angrier than males about being cyber-bullied.

- Bullies names are unknown and/or not shown on the link above
- People could and did post things to directly attack her online where any one could see the things said and the pictures of her
- Her mom became upset and told the school
- A well defined no bullying policy was how the school defended it's self
- The site is no longer online

Measures A Parent Could Take To Help Prevent Cyberbullying

- Talk to the school about bullying policies
- If your kid is expecting an e-mail to be from a cyber tell them they should not open the e-mail at all and to put them in the trash right away
- Make sure your kid knows how to filter and block people who can use the chat box to talk to them in hurtful ways
- If your child wants to see/ meet some one they met online tell them that people can lie very easily online and appear as any one they want to be. Also make sure to tell them it's not always safe to meet a stranger you met over the internet.
- Monitor closely what your kids are doing when they are online.
- Some way you can monitor what your kids are doing online is to have certin times when they can be on and to not allow them to have their computers in their room.
- Your kids need to know to NEVER share their any passwords with anyone except for you if you want it.
- Be awear of the waring signs of cyber bullying.
- Some signs include spending much more time on the internet, they become more solitary and don't want to hang out with theirs friends or groups of people anymore, and depression.
- Be willing and able to contact the police or the proper authorities if you have the evidence or have to.
